Sahara One has found yet another format that promises to keep the viewers glued to the channel. The new show will have 10 celebrities from different walks of life who will sing with 10 professional singers.
Imagine singer Udit Narayan singing a duet with Mona Singh.
After dancing, doing stand-up comedy and confining to a house, this time celebrities will hone their vocal chords for a new show that is an adaptation of UK’s Stars on Stage. The name of the Indian version is not yet decided.
How will the Indian version be different, or, is the show a replica of its foreign format? Kalyan Sundaram the programming head says, “I know most reality shows are adaptations of foreign formats. But, ours is different as it will have two celebrities as a singer jodi. The interesting part is that Asha Bhonsle will be the face of the show as a judge.”
Although in the international format there are 18 celebrities and 18 professional singers - altogether 36 glamorous contestants, the Indian version will have a total of 20, including celebrities and professional singers.
The channel is currently approaching personalities from television, film, fashion, business, sports, politics and other fields. Few names which have popped up from the glamour world are Shweta Tiwari, Varun Badola and Roshni Chopra. Among the professional singers, are Vinod Rathod, Sudesh Bhonsle and Babul Supriyo. However, the channel has yet to finalise the contestants.
Sundaram says, “We are all excited about the show.” The show is scheduled to go on air sometime in October.
